During the last year of lockdowns, lock-ins and pandemic as we had to temporarily be separated from our favourite ladies at Tara Rose Salons, too many of us went through hair-tastrophes of our own: the at-home haircuts, the neglected roots, and abandonment of hair styling in general in favour of the almighty messy bun.
I am guilty, too. But then again, I never did much to my hair to begin with. My naturally blonde locks hide the grey strands in between highlighting treatments and the long layers lend way to easy end trimming, if I must. On most days though, I am the queen of the bun atop my head.
So I adapted easily, but let’s be honest— I still look(ed) a hot mess.
Summer 2021 is all about people wanting to express their best self, whether that’s having a gorgeous marshmallow-pink toner, face-framing highlights, luscious lavender dip-dyed ends, or keeping beautiful naturally textured hair. With all that we’ve been through in the past 18 months, there’s an emphasis on trying to find out where we’re most confident in ourselves— finding our true selves. And that’s what hot girl summer is all about!
So I went for the look I’d dreamed of for ages, been too nervous to try: a gorgeous creamy platinum blonde with a marshmallow pink toner peeping through. My reservations are gone and actually I’m seeing my inner confidence come out; I am ready to own this!
The process took my natural colour from it’s normal golden blonde by applying an all-over bleach. Then, my stylist used a toner to achieve the perfect shade and shimmer of pink.
Toners are very much the in thing right now— anything with warmer tones, things that look sun-kissed and have redness to them— and they’re a super simple treatment for your stylist to add on. It can work for all types of skin tones—you just have to find the right shade for you. For me, the pink actually needed just a hint of a silvery undertone because naturally I have this blush colour very prominently in my face and honestly, so much pink might make me look like a giant bubble gum glob.
As we finished the main colour, we moved on to the style where texture is polished and well-groomed with bouncy curls on the ends of the hair—think Mean Girls. That early 2000s look is back and honestly, I’m hair for it all day, every day.
Whether you’re up for a daring adventure and willing to try out some colour this summer, or just looking for the freshness of a modern, choppy shag that is making its way back— the amazing stylists at Tara Rose Salons will have you covered.
For me, looks like it’s not just on Wednesdays I’m wearing pink.
